When I was young, I was briefly considered an at-risk student. I was able to overcome my weaknesses with extra help from others. I went on to attend college and get my teaching degree. I have over eighteen years of experience teaching English Language Arts. It is my strong belief that a student needs to feel powerful and confident to be able to succeed. As a teacher and tutor, it is my duty to equip them with the tools and techniques they will need to become successful life-long learners and productive members of society. I have helped many learners at different levels, including those who were way off of the typical reading levels and those who are considered gifted. In addition to empowering my pupils, I use my past to help them succeed. I tell my students the steps that I personally took to overcome being at-risk. I share my story of overcoming the barriers that were in my way and went on to attend college and earn my teaching degree. I have found that sharing this personal information helps me connect with them. I am able to show them that anything is possible with hard work and determination. I am excited to share my story with your child and help him or her reach their goals
